Camping near the lakes in Auvergne and Puy-de-Dôme

Located in the heart of the Auvergne Volcanoes Park, our campsite is ideally situated for discovering the most beautiful lakes of the Puy-de-Dôme. Lake Aydat, the largest natural lake in Auvergne, is just 5 minutes from the campsite and offers swimming and many family activities.

During your stay, you can also discover Lake Chambon, Lake Pavin, Lake Servières, and Lake Guéry. These very different lakes, surrounded by volcanoes and wide-open spaces, can be explored while swimming, hiking, or simply having a picnic by the water.

An ideal campsite for discovering the lakes of Auvergne

From Camping Les Volcans in Aydat, several of the most beautiful lakes in Auvergne are easily accessible for a day trip, a real advantage during periods of high heat. Lake Aydat is notably very close, while the lakes of Servières, Chambon, Guéry, and Pavin offer a variety of landscapes and walks throughout your stay, never requiring more than a 25-minute drive.

After a day by the lake or on the hiking trails, you will find the tranquility of our small family campsite, its heated pool, and its 59 pitches in the heart of nature.

The most beautiful lakes to discover around the campsite

Lake Aydat: swimming 5 minutes from the campsite

Only 3.5 km from the campsite, Lake Aydat is the largest natural lake in Auvergne. It is one of only two lakes where swimming is allowed. Surrounded by forests and volcanic landscapes, it is the ideal place for a family swim, a walk along the water’s edge, or to enjoy the many water activities offered in summer. Lake Aydat is awarded the Blue Flag label

From the campsite, you can easily reach the lake on foot (40 minutes), by bike (15 minutes), or by car (5 minutes). You will find a beautiful developed beach, children's games, and rentals of paddleboards, canoes, or pedal boats: an easy outing to include in your stay.

Our tip: in summer, the lake can be very busy, so it is better to go in the morning to fully enjoy the lake

Discover Lake Aydat and its activities

Lake Guery in Auvergne, 15 minutes from the campsite

Lake Chambon: swimming with a view of the volcanoes

About 15 minutes from the campsite, Lake Chambon is a natural lake located at the foot of the Sancy massif. With its two large developed beaches and shallow waters, it is a particularly pleasant place for swimming and a family day out.

You can also walk around the lake (one of the few small walks that are 100% flat and possible with a stroller or small children's bikes), enjoy water activities, or simply settle by the water with a beautiful view of the volcanoes.

Our tip: combine the trip to Lake Chambon with a visit to Murol Castle or La Ferme de l'Oiseau.

Lake Servières: a volcanic lake in the heart of nature

À 10 minutes from the campsite by car (but also accessible on foot for a day trip), the Lake Servières is a small volcanic lake nestled in a crater and surrounded by forests. A lovely walk allows you to go around it and is undoubtedly one of the easiest in the area (about 45 minutes, on flat ground). An easy outing to do even with very young children (from 3 years old).
Our tip: bring a picnic, it's our favorite cool spot whether at noon or in the evening :-)

Lake Guéry: the highest lake in Auvergne

Located about 15 minutes from the campsite, Lake Guéry offers a very different landscape, more mountainous and wild. At an altitude of 1,250 meters, it is the highest lake in Auvergne! Starting from the Guéry pass, several hikes allow you to discover the lake as well as the waterfall and viewpoints of the Sancy massif.

Lake Pavin: one of the most beautiful volcanic lakes in Auvergne

About 30 minutes from the campsite, Lake Pavin is one of the most famous volcanic lakes in Auvergne. Nestled in the heart of a deep crater, it offers a spectacular landscape. It is the youngest volcano in Auvergne with an almost perfect circular shape. It is also the deepest in Auvergne (over 90 m), giving it intense blue waters!
Our tip: on the way, stop in the beautiful medieval village of Besse

But also: Lac Chauvet (36 km away), an ancient maar, to be discovered on a beautiful hike in the heights of the Cézallier, the Gour de Tazenat  (60 km away) with swimming allowed but unsupervised!

It is possible to fish in several of these lakes, consult our dedicated fishing page to learn more.
