Eco-friendly campsite in Aydat, Auvergne, certified with Clef Verte

Committed to an eco-friendly approach since the reopening of the volcano camps in 2020, we have gradually shifted towards more sustainable tourism. To solidify our commitment and continue improving, we obtained the Green Key label in 2024

Clef Verte label in 2024 for Camping Les Volcans in Aydat

The Green Key label distinguishes tourist accommodations and restaurants committed to a voluntary, efficient, and dynamic environmental approach. The label is awarded annually by an independent jury made up of experts and professionals in tourism and the environment. We were thus audited on a set of 109 criteria and received a visit from an auditor during the 2023 season.

Our ecological commitment, and more broadly our approach in favor of more sustainable and eco-responsible tourism, is reflected in concrete actions, from the most symbolic to the most impactful. They are sometimes carried out solely by the campsite and often shared with campers.

  • No chemicals or pesticides for the maintenance of green spaces and choice of eco-labelled cleaning products for housekeeping.
  • Development of local products for the snack bar: St-Nectaire from the neighbour, Auvergne charcuterie, burger bread from the baker, local potatoes…
  • Making available in our rentals eco-labelled cleaning products and eliminating individual dose products, generators of a lot of unnecessary waste.
  • Being an LPO refuge by implementing the recommendations of the association to preserve biodiversity. This is particularly why the hedges of the campsite are not pruned before summer (nesting period) but in autumn.
  • Loan of a nature observation bag and display of birds present around the campsite to raise awareness of the surrounding fauna and flora.
  • Awareness of biodiversity with the organization of visits to the campsite apiary (in beekeeper's outfit!) thanks to the intervention of a local association, Tralalarts Aydat.
  • Work and changes in practices to limit water and energy consumption, particularly through the complete renovation of the sanitary facilities.
  • Fostering trustful relationships within the campsite : loan of equipment without deposit (electrical connection, rackets, balls, petanque balls...), setting up a book box, a game box and a sharing box in free access.
  • Favoring the repair and reuse of equipment, or donating to recyclers.
  • Selective sorting, composting with bio-bin loan, recovery of empty gas cartridges…

The list should continue to grow over the seasons. And it's especially thanks to the good ideas of campers who have shared their suggestions or little tips with us! Thank you very much for your help :-)
