5 hikes to do from the campsite in Aydat

It is possible to hike directly from the campsite to Aydat with trails in the volcanoes for an hour or a day! Leave the car, van or motorhome parked and enjoy the vast spaces that surround us. These hikes are aimed at occasional walkers as well as the most motivated, with paths accessible to families but also real day trips.

- Puy de la Combegrasse, l'incontournable en une heure ! C'est la balade à faire même si vous ne passez qu'une nuit au camping. Comptez une bonne heure dont une belle petite côte pour gravir le puy mais sans difficulté majeure. Et la grimpette vaut le détour : au sommet vous aurez un panorama à 360° sur la chaine des puys et sur le massif du Sancy
(avec 2 tables d'orientation). C'est aussi un très bel endroit pour admirer le coucher du soleil (prévoir des habits chaud) ! Cette randonnée est accessible aux enfants, dès 3 ans
en prenant son temps. Attention, les chiens ne sont pas autorisés durant les périodes d'estives, de mai à octobre.

- Vichatel Peak, a magnificent crater in 2h30 !
It's the second deepest crater in the chain of puys after Puy Pariou), and it is possible to descend into the interior, a beautiful experience! A large part of the hike is in woodland (very pleasant on sunny days) with beautiful viewpoints at the summit. The walk lasts about 2h30 or 3h with children, on a very walkable path.

- Puy de la Rodde, a hike of about 1h (3.3km) partly in the woods, therefore very pleasant in warm weather! This volcano located opposite the campsite entrance underwent developments in 2025 that allow to benefit of very beautiful panoramas over the Sancy massif and the chain of puys
but also to guess its crater at the summit. The path is well passable and accessible without problem with children. A new must-see of the area!

🌋 Interest: recent aménaged panoramas, discreet crater, ideal in hot weather
- Puys de la Vache and Lassolas, the twins in one journée ! Set off with a picnic à the discovery of these two beautiful twin cratères. On the menu: glowing pouzzolane and exceptional panoramas over the chain of puys! To enjoy it you will have à face two beautiful côtes and quite a few stair steps. Our little advice: go up via Puy de Lassolas, because its path is in pouzzolane, très slippery à the descent. On your way you will also cross the puys of Charmont and de la Rodde. For discover these puys with young children, prefer the departure from the parking provided à this effect.
Proposals d'a loop of 16km between the campsite and the puys of the Vache and Lassolas or a longer alternative with a route of 18,5 km from the campsite.

🌋 Interest: red pouzzolane, twin craters, emblematic landscapes of the Chaîne des Puys
- Lac de Servières, a discovery for the day!
This lake s'est formé in a volcanic cratère and offers a still wild landscape. The hike to reach it from the campsite is a round‑trip without particular difficulty with several beautiful viewpoints. It is possible to have a meal along the way à Pessade. The hike of about 19 km follows the white and red GR markings from the campsite.

🌋 Interest: wild volcanic lake (and sublime!), gentle hike, preserved natural atmosphere
These hikes from the campsite are ideal for fully enjoying the volcanoes without constraint. Whether you have an hour in front of you or a whole day, just slip on your shoes and set off on the adventure, directly from your site
