20 activities and visits around the campsite to do when it rains
If rain were to disrupt your stay at the campsite, we have good news: there are plenty of activities to do in the surrounding area to continue enjoying your vacation despite the weather! Indoor visits, sheltered sports activities, artistic awakening... there's something for every taste and age!
All these activities to do when it rains are located within 40 minutes of Camping Les Volcans in Aydat, in the heart of the Auvergne volcanoes.
Rain is never very pleasant, but by adapting the holiday program a bit, it's possible to continue to enjoy it fully. Here are some suggestions for activities to do when it rains around the campsite:
Swimming and relaxation at
Royatonic
25 minutes from the campsite. Baths over 30 degrees, jacuzzis, hammams, saunas... Royatonic invites you to relax in the beautiful setting of this spa town. It is also possible to benefit from treatments. Online reservation recommended. From 6 years old.
Other indoor swimming options for young children: Chamalières pool, O'Sancy in La Bourboule; Les Hermines in Super Besse...
Activities dry and warm (100% indoors)
- Michelin's Adventure (35 minutes from the campsite, in Clermont), great to do even with young children. You can easily spend 2 hours, or more for adults. No need to be passionate about tires or cars to be captivated by the very well-constructed visit.
- Pierre de Volvic Cave (40 minutes from the campsite), you will discover the history of the exploitation of this volcanic rock that still marks the region's architecture. Depending on the day, two visits are proposed: a historical tour or the cave of lights for a majestic show.
- Petrifying fountains and/or Cornadore Grottoes ( 20 minutes from the campsite, in Saint-Nectaire) where you will discover the techniques of petrification of objects in one (a real work of art!) and the ritual route of the first Roman baths in the other. Also visit the very beautiful Romanesque church of St-Nectaire-le-Haut.
- Gergovie Battle Museum (20 minutes from the campsite). On the very site of the battle (but in a beautiful building, nice and dry!) you will relive the fight led by Vercingetorix and his men against the Romans of Julius Caesar. It is also a discovery of the life of the Arverne people. Many elements presented require reading, so we recommend the visit from 8-10 years old.
Activities possible even in the rain
- Lemptégy Volcano
- Murol Castle
- GAEC de l'Oiseau Farm (20 minutes from the campsite), there's no good weather to go to the farm so take advantage of a rainy day to attend the milking (sheltered), see the calves nice and warm inside, as well as the pigs, sheep... Boots and waterproofs are still a must!
- Vulcania (25 minutes from the campsite) where most activities are indoors, so it's particularly suitable for rainy weather. But it's also the days with the highest attendance...
- Indoor climbing , at Aydat leisure center (5 minutes from the campsite) with a very nice wall or in Clermont's B'up rooms which offer block, Clip'n climb, route areas...
- Artistic awakening at Milles formes (30 minutes, in Clermont). This art initiation center is free and offers activities for children from 0 to 6 years old (older children can accompany their little brothers and sisters). It's great, and dry!
- Indoor leisure parks for children, for example Youpi park .
Also: cinemas, bowling alleys, escape rooms...
All these activities are accessible from our campsite located in the heart of the Auvergne volcanoes. Even in rainy weather, a stay in Auvergne remains rich in discoveries and experiences, for young and old. Don't hesitate to ask for advice at the reception of Camping Les Volcans to adapt your program according to the weather.
