What to do when it's very hot around the Aydat campsite?
The thermometer sometimes rises very high during the day at the campsite in Aydat (even if the nights are always cool!). You then need to adapt your schedule and activities to make the most of it. Shaded hikes, cool activities... Here are some ideas for activities to do when it's very hot around Camping Les Volcans in Aydat, in the heart of the Auvergne volcanoes.
Shaded hikes around Aydat
Several hiking trails are well suited to hot days thanks to the shade provided by the undergrowth. Among
the easiest hikes (from 3 years old) , the Pavin lake circuit, the Puy de Vichatel or the Queureuilh and Rossignolet waterfalls are recommended. Slightly longer and shaded hikes are also possible, such as
the Dent du Marais loop at Murol (2h15),
the three Chaudefour valley waterfalls (3h) or the Roches Tuillières and Sanadoire loop (3h).
Remember to bring water, as there is usually no supply point on the trails.
Hikes near water to cool off
On hot days, it's also pleasant to hike along a river and take a picnic break in the cool.
The Gorges de la Monne (15 minutes from the campsite) lend themselves well to this kind of outing, the walk lasts 2 hours and it's possible to stop and play by the water's edge without difficulty. However, be careful, the end of the return journey is not very shaded.
Another possibility: the Chiloza waterfalls , a 2-hour walk near Besse which leads to the edge of multiple small waterfalls where children can play, build dams, make boats... Possibility to shorten the walk by making a round trip to avoid the second part of the loop which is a bit long.
Swimming in the lakes around the campsite
If many lakes are close to the campsite, only Lac d'Aydat and Lac Chambon are allowed for swimming . It is even supervised during the summer on the developed beaches. It is also possible to rent pedalos, canoes, paddleboards... In July and August, we recommend going there in the morning to enjoy the calm.
Shaded activities in the forest
The Arboris Forest, 5 minutes from the campsite. This eco-citizen leisure park is located in the Aydat forest and offers activities adapted to all ages : treasure hunt for the youngest, experience games (a kind of escape game in the great outdoors) or laser wood (laser game in the woods) for older children and adults. You can enjoy the freshness of the forest and the refreshment bar with its local drinks. The adventure continues in the evening with Auvergne legends that come to life between land art and incredible light shows. We highly recommend +++
Visits in the cool indoors
The Pierre de Volvic Grotto,
35 minutes from the campsite. Guaranteed coolness in this former quarry where the Pierre de Volvic stone was extracted, this dark volcanic rock that can be found on many buildings, including the Clermont-Ferrand Cathedral. We also discover the daily lives of the workers who worked there, as well as the works created from this stone.
