Organize your Easter holidays at the campsite in Auvergne

Florian Meyer • January 27, 2025

Spring is the ideal season to discover Auvergne in all its splendor. The campsite opens up from the Easter holidays to allow you to enjoy the calm of volcanoes but also the many already possible activities, between visits, hikes, cycling, tree climbing ...

Puy de l'Ouire hike, from Lake Servières
We have (at least) 5 good reasons for you to organize your stay in volcanoes now during spring holidays:

1. Ideal conditions to explore volcanoes, lakes and waterfalls
In the spring you will (almost) be alone on the hiking trails and can fully enjoy the large spaces. Calmly admir the landscape from the top of a crater, contemplate the still snowy ridges of the Sancy, picnic on the shore of a deserted lake ... These experiences are to be lived in early spring to measure its strength! Especially since the climate is generally mild in April-May with beautiful days that extend as a bonus.

2. All activities are open from Easter holidays
If you want to vary from hiking, all our partners are open in April: Arboris forest, Aydat tree climbing, mountain bike rental, giant zip lines, summer sledge ... but also places of cultural visits Like the Chateau de Murol, the Michelin adventure, the Lemptégy volcano or Vulcania. You see, you will not have enough for a week in the spring, you will have to come back ;-)

3. Take advantage of the Auvergne gastronomy
Even if there is no season to taste a good truffade or fondue of St-Nectaire , spring and its smoother evenings lends itself particularly well! We can guide you to our good addresses around the campsite to enjoy unforgettable Auvergne meals ...

4. Comfortable, heated and isolated accommodation
For Easter holidays we only open our comfortable accommodation so that you fully enjoy your stay. Mobile homes, chalet, pod ... They are all with reinforced insulation and with radiators in each room because the nights can be very fresh in April. Children will also have access to outdoor games (playground, table tennis, table football, pétanque, football ...) but also to our heated interior playing room .

5. Nature comes back to life and offers beautiful meetings
Last good reason to stay in volcanoes in the spring, but not the least, this alarm clock of nature is for us a source of wonder each year . The buds that hatch, greenery as far as the eye can see, flowers that gradually appear ... and the animals that give themselves to heart! The calm of spring then offers beautiful encounters during small walks or large hikes: flights of raptors, first outings of marmots , chamois group, or multitude of small birds in the campsite around your accommodation ... These discovery opportunities are everywhere and are worth the trip alone!

So quickly at the campsite! Whether in spring or summer, Auvergne will always have surprises to reveal to you :-)

- Shaded hikes. Several hiking trails are well suited to very hot days thanks to the shade offered by the undergrowth. Among the easiest hikes (from 3 years old), the tour of Lake Pavin, the Puy de Vichatel or the Queureuilh and Rossignolet waterfalls are recommended. Slightly longer and shaded hikes are also possible such as the Dent du Marais loop in Murol (2h15), the three waterfalls of the Chaudefour valley (3h) or the Roches Tuillières and Sanadoire loop (3h). Remember to take water, there are generally no refueling points on the paths. - Hiking near the water. On hot days it is also pleasant to hike along a stream and have a picnic stop in the cool. The Gorges de la Monne (15 minutes from the campsite) are ideal for this type of getaway, the walk lasts 2 hours and it is possible to stop and play at the water's edge without difficulty. Be careful though, the end of the return path is not very shaded. Another possibility: the Chiloza waterfalls, a 2-hour walk near Besse which leads to the edge of multiple small waterfalls where children can play, build dams, make boats... Possibility of shortening the walk by doing a round trip to avoid the somewhat long second part of the loop. - Swimming at the lake. Although many lakes are close to the campsite, only Lake Aydat and Lake Chambon are allowed for swimming. It is even monitored there during the summer on the developed beaches. It is also possible to rent pedal boats, canoes, paddles... In July and August, we advise you to go there in the morning to enjoy the calm. - Adventures at the Forêts des Arboris (5 minutes from the campsite). This eco-citizen leisure park is located in the Aydat forest and offers activities suitable for all ages: treasure hunt for the little ones, game experiences (a sort of escape game in the countryside) or laser wood (laser game in the woods) for older children and adults. We then enjoy the freshness of the forest and the refreshment bar with its local drinks. The adventure also continues into the evening with Auvergne legends that come to life between land art and incredible light shows. We recommend +++ - Visit to the Grotte de la pierre de Volvic (35 minutes from the campsite). Freshness guaranteed in this old quarry from which Volvic stone was extracted, this dark volcanic rock found on many buildings including the Clermont-Ferrand cathedral. We also discover the daily life of the workers who worked there as well as the works made from this stone. Information on the Volvic stone cave site.
